God’s Work, Done God’s Way, Will Not Lack God’s Support!
St. Luke’s Building Committee Mission Statement
“Where there is no vision, the people perish . . . .” (Proverbs 29:18)
“St. Luke’s has heard God’s call to enhance and expand our ministries.God has blessed us with a sustaining faith, and to better share that faith and serve our neighbors, we should expand our physical plant. We therefore accept God’s call to “arise and build,” so that we can more effectively advance His kingdom, both within our church family, and in Christian outreach to the surrounding community.”
In February 2004, the Church Council chartered a “Building Proposals Study Group” to review, study, and report back to Church Council regarding:(1) purchasing property surrounding St. Luke’s; (2)reviewing options for expanding St. Luke’s facilities; and (3) reviewing options for increasing parking capacity.Specific facility enhancements to consider were:building a LARGE “multi-purpose” room (furnished with a state-of-the-art kitchen and audiovisual capability) and establish a state-of-the-art nursery facility.
We’ve come a long way since February 2004 thanks to steady, diligent work by many St. Luke’s laity members, staff, and our Pastors. As many will recall, last year Dec/Jan, we provided you with building committee updates about recommended facility improvements to invest in St. Luke’s future for expanding our local, national and world-wide missions. We have been working diligently the last year to take into account your comments; we have secured the services of a capital campaign company, and are ready now to move forward.
On January 11th, Glendon Smith, a consultant from James Klote Associates, will temporarily join our SLUMC staff and work with us as we present a series of focus group sessions. The purpose of these sessions is to update you on the current building planning, get your feedback, and prepare for a “church-wide” vote in mid-February on this vision for enlarging and renovating St. Luke’s current and future operation on Ella Taylor Road.
As you know, many before us paved the way for our existing worship facilities -- our legacy moving forward should be to invest in the future of the church, our families and the community. This is an exciting time – be a part of St. Luke’s vision of the future.
