Current Building UpdateSt. Luke’s Building Committee Current Update July 2006: St. Luke’s Building Committee has been back at work since Jan 2006 – as many of you are aware, the Building Committee conducted a survey several months ago and the results of the surveys and interviews with the different Ministry areas indicated a definite need for more classrooms, larger fellowship hall/kitchen, upgraded nursery, relocated & larger Food Closet, more space for the Music Dept. & Preschool and more storage room for all areas. These changes could all greatly enhance St. Luke's mission "Christian Disciples called to transform our community and world through God's love." Back in August 2005, the Church Council concurred with the recommendations of the August Building Committee report – that the Church Council appoint a Building Committee to select and hire a designer/architect to design a facility that will economically fulfill the “needs” briefly stated in the paragraph above. Current membership on the St. Luke’s Building Committee includes the following: Rob Anderson, Joel Church, Bob Dye, Blair Ellis, Ken Engebretson, Kathy Everhart, Debbie Frecker, Betty Miller, Pete Prindle, and Pat Murphy. Of note, Pastor Doug Gestwick has experience with 3 different building projects associated with previous churches that he pastored and Pastor Doug says he is excited about being involved in his fourth project! The members of the committee are working the following items as St. Luke’s moves toward selecting an architect to take our community of faith’s ideas and stated needs and putting those requirements on paper: · Looking at companies whose primary business is to plan/design Churches (build new, remodel, add-on, etc.) · Reviewing the specific areas mentioned previously in more detail and coming to consensus on recommended changes (classrooms, larger fellowship hall/kitchen, upgraded nursery, relocated and larger Food Closet, more space for the Music Dept. and Preschool, as well as more storage room for all areas) · Keeping a functional St. Luke’s Building Project Web Page current in order to help keep the St. Luke’s members apprised of current planning Before committing funds, the building committee will report back to the Church Council with more specifics regarding recommended changes to St. Luke’s physical plant structure as well as a recommendation for which Plan/Design Company we recommend that St. Luke’s hire to help enable us to take the next step. Additionally, through the St. Luke’s website and other means of communication, we will keep the St. Luke’s UMC community of faith updated on where we are in the process and will solicit your inputs and comments, as appropriate. If you have any comments or questions please contact any of the members on the building committee directly, send an email to the St. Luke’s Building Project email address: building@stlukesyorktown.org, or leave a note in the building committee mail box in the Church Office. |
