Mastilovic family emigrated from Bosnia in 1997

Mastilovic Through a special agreement between Catholic Charities and Church World Service, Boban’s sister Mladenka (“Makica”), and her family, was sponsored by St. Lukes in 1997. She and her husband, Branko, along with their three daughters Svjetlana, Maja and Marina, lived in Gacko, which is in Bosnia near the border with Montenegro. They purchased a house in Newport News in 1999. Branko worked as a cook at County Grill in York County. Tragically, Branko died from a massive heart attack in the summer of 2003 as the family was vacationing and visiting relatives in Toronto, Canada. Makica currently works at Newport News Inc. and also takes care of our children in the St. Lukes nursery.
